Jonathan Roxmouth: Call Me Lee
Rhumbelow Theatre: 12 - 20 July
Multi-award winning theatre star Jonathan Roxmouth is back with his new piano show Call Me Lee. Following the success of A Handful of Keys, Topsy Turvy and most recently Phantom of the Opera, Roxmouth pays tribute to Mr. Showmanship - Liberace..."Lee" to his friends... in this concert biography.
In Call Me Lee Roxmouth traces the journey of the man who became Liberace through the well-known classics that made him a showbiz icon and popular pianist for more than 40 years. Everything from Boogie Woogie to the Beer Barrel Polka' Tchaikovsky to Chopin and of course nostalgic hits like "I'll Be Seeing You" and "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" make up a selection of music that guarantees something for everyone.
Call Me Lee also features some of the most lavish glittering costumes seen on the Rhumbelow stage by award-winning designer Lena Olivier worthy of the memory of Mr. Showmanship.

Durban: 18 – 28 July
2013 sees the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF), hosted by the Centre for Creative Arts, University of KwaZulu-Natal, with principal funding by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, return for its 34thyear to celebrate the beauty and diversity of global cinema. From 18 to 28 July, Durban will be illuminated by the glow of the silver screen, with over 250 screenings in 11 venues across the city. Alongside this smorgasbord of the best of contemporary cinema from around, comprising 72 feature films, 48 documentaries and 45 short films, the festival offers a comprehensive workshop and seminar programme that facilitates the sharing of knowledge and skills by film industry experts.

The Durban FilmMart a partnership project between DIFF and the Durban Film Office, supported by the City of Durban, is a film finance and co-production market presented in three strands – Finance Forum, Master Classes and the Africa in Focus seminars.  The DFM master class and networking programme is open to registered delegates only. Durban Wild Talk , running concurrently to the DIFF, this is the continent’s most respected natural history film festival and conference, which takes place from July 23 to 26.  A selection of nine natural history films have been chosen from 445 entries from across the globe, to be screened at the festival. Wavescape Surf Film Festival a feast of surfing cinema, including 11 features and 5 shorts. Wavescape opens with a free outdoor screening at the Bay of Plenty Lawns on Sunday 21 July.
Talent Campus which brings together the creativity of 50 selected filmmakers from 18 different countries in Africa, chosen from over 450 submissions, who will take part in a series of masterclasses, workshops and industry networking opportunities during the festival.

The festival hub is at the Blue Waters Hotel, with principal screening venues at Suncoast Cinecentre, Ster Kinekor Musgrave, Cinema Nouveau Gateway, Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre and Ekhaya Multi-Arts Centre in KwaMashu. Taste of Durban
Suncoast: Fri 26 – Sun 28 July
The Pick n Pay Taste of Durban in association with Orbit Sugarfree Chewing Gum is back from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 July at Suncoast. For the occasion, chefs from nine of Durban’s best restaurants will create special menus of starter-sized dishes, including their signature dishes, designed to reflect their individual philosophies, whilst showcasing seasonal and premium ingredients. Following its enormous success in 2012, Taste of Durban promises to be the most exciting ‘foodie’ event of the year, on the Durban social calendar. 

Food 4 Thought, a restaurant revenue-generating project, has been chosen as the official charity for this year’s event.  ‘Food 4 Thought’ raises funds and awareness, for the expansion and work of Umthombo, a Durban-based organisation that empowers street children to be able to leave street life and take their place in the community as proud citizens.

Lining up to show off their talents at the 2013 eventare chefs Marcelle Roberts from Café 1999 and Louise Potgieter from Havana Grill at Suncoast and Little Havana and award-winning executive chef, Jackie Cameron, from Hartford House. Representing a selection of Umhlanga’s top eateries are Chris Glocke from BAR-BA-COA Argentinean Grill and Butcher Boys, as well as elements café at The Beverly Hills.  Lucy Markewicz will be flying the colours for Freedom Café and popular Indian restaurant Amaravathi Palki, brings the total of participating restaurants to nine of Durban’s best.

Witness Hilton Arts Festival turns 21!
Bumper two day Jongosi schools programme

Jongosi Festival: 12 & 13 September
The annual Witness Hilton Arts Festival comes of age! KZN’s foremost and respected arts festivals turns 21 this year and is offering a bumper Jongosi mini schools festival embedded in the main arts festival, for high schools and primary schools to have a tailor-made package ahead of the main event.

It will take place on the beautiful grounds of the Hilton College from 13 - 15 September 2013, with Jongosi taking place over two days Thursday 12 September for Primary Schools and Friday 13 September for High Schools.
