Entries are now open for businesses in the
tourism and hospitality sector to be part of the 3rd annual Durban
Tourism Business Awards.

Those who enter stand the chance to win
development prizes. All the winners in each category will take home up to
R50 000 in cash while exceptional achievement winners will be awarded
R100 000 to attend an international tourism exhibition or study tour. The
first runner-up will receive R35 000 while the second runner up will
receive R25 000.
THE
CATEGORIES FOR THE AWARDS INCLUDE:
Service
Excellence Category
This includes the following subcategories:
The Accommodations Awards: Hotels and
non-hotels
MESE Awards which includes meetings,
exhibitions, and special events venues.
Visitor Experience Awards includes scenic
beauty, roots and culture, adventure and activities, wildlife, lifestyle, beach
experience, and lap of luxury.
Tourist Guides Awards includes nature
guides, adventure guides and culture guides.
Tour Operators Awards for emerging and
established tour guides.
Rickshaw Pullers
Crafters
Event organisers and promoters
The
Sustainable Development Category
These are awards for those that promote
universal accessibility and green tourism products.
The
Entrepreneurship Category
This category will be for emerging tourism
entrepreneurs and recognises black-owned small, medium and micro enterprises
(SMME) tourism establishments.
The
Upcoming Filmmakers Category
The
Exceptional Achievement Category
This category includes five subcategories
which are: Investment, Hospitality, Rural and township investment development,
Creative industry and Persons with disabilities excelling in the sector.
After the completion of the entry process,
the final results will be counted and audited for businesses that entered. The
whole awards process will receive a detailed audit.
The next step will be phase two which is
public voting. This is in line with the Awards’ objectives, which is to achieve
public awareness of local tourism products.
The third and final stage will see an
independent panel of judges process the nominated products. This will include
physical visits to the nominated businesses.
