KZNSA is gearing up for BUZZART 2016 and they are looking for your product to make this another bumper year.

BUZZART 2015 had a 50% increase in turnover from 2014, and, with you, they continue to grow our local creative economy.

Dates: Opening night is Wednesday 16 November from 5pm. Snacks and drinks will be served, bring friends!

BUZZART is from 17 November 2016 to 15 January 2017.

Deadline to receive product: Wednesday 9 November

If your ranges are new or you haven’t supplied them in a while please email them some photos by the end of October.

Criteria: Locally designed and/or made product

Categories they are looking for:

The Pascale Chandler studio is producing a body of work inspired by The Year of the Monkey. Anything that is themed monkey or African sub tropics will be included in an installation in the Mezzanine Gallery.

Auditions and Opportunities for Artists

Auditions:

Children invited to audition for KickstArt’s Winnie the Pooh

This will be presented over the July school holidays and is based on the classic AA Milne children’s story.

When: Saturday 27 February

Where: Playhouse Mayville workshops / studios in Ramsay Road Mayville

Time: 10am

Children must be between ages of 9 and 13. They should present a short acting monologue or poem and a song with backing tracks on a CD.

They are looking for a Christopher Robin and several of Rabbits friends and relations.

A Call For Artists for Francofête

Looking for artists of all backgrounds, professionals and emerging artists.

The event will be held on Human Rights Day in Durban on Monday March 21.

African Arts Centre Xmas Exhibition

There is much on offer this year, look out for handmade beadwork, embroidery, telephone wire, clay and wood decorations this year.

Look out for innovative products thanks to a creative skills development programme which aims to help local crafters generate a sustainable income through their art.

Wonder Msane, Phumlani Mbhele and Phumlani Madela have produced a range of ornaments in the formation of stars, hearts and angels executed in specified colour combinations.

‘We are thrilled to see young people absorb new skills so creatively!’ says assistant director Nozipho Zulu.

Look out for many arts and crafts from the likes of Happiness Dladla, Dumsile Mathe and many more.

A novel feature this year are uniquely African-designed beach towels so you can hit the beach in style. This is a result of a partnership between Mr Price Home and 4 African Art Centre artists, Sibusiso Duma, Nonotobeko Jilajila, Mbali Mabuza and Timothy Mlambo.

This new range will be available in Mr Price Home from 12 November.

A portion of the sales from each towel will go back to the African Art Centre to help with the development of emerging artists.

Call for African Filmmakers

The annual Durban FilmMart recently celebrated five amazing years as Africa’s leading film co-production and funding market, and is calling all African filmmakers to submit their film projects for 2015 DFM selections which opens today, the 31^st October and closes on the 15^th February 2015.

“DFM 2014 has been an exceptionally successful one; with amazing talent coming through, innovative workshops taking place and exciting opportunities presented. We look forward to the submissions for next year’s DFM and encourage African filmmakers to take a chance and put themselves out there - you never know where this first step can take you.” says Durban Film Office’s Toni Monty.

DFM has worked with ninety-five official projects making their debuts at the four day event in Durban over the past five years. Many DFM alumni’s have secured further funding grants and screened at film festivals around the world, establishing Durban FilmMart as a key platform for budding African filmmakers to propel their film making careers.

Planning is already underway to ensure the 2015 Durban FilmMart, an innovative development initiative created by the Durban Film Office (DFO) and the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) and funded by the City, offers profitable and exciting opportunities for selected projects.

Have you been developing a great film idea that tells a dynamic African story or need to raise funding to complete your film in development? In order to benefit from the Durban FilmMart experience, African filmmakers are urged to submit their fiction or documentary feature projects in development for consideration before the closing date 15 February 2015.

Durban FilmMart 2015 will select 10 fiction feature and 10 Documentary feature projects in development to participate in the 6^th Durban FilmMart taking place 17 – 20^th July 2015. Interested African filmmakers, from writers to directors, are encouraged to submit their projects by 15 February 2015. 1. KZNSA


The KZNSA is the home of Arts in Durban and it has been for a long time.
You will find this lovely Art Gallery in Bulwer Road.  It has quite a few rooms in
it to explore and alongside it a wonderful Coffee Shop where you will find
many people from the Arts Community.

2.  The Collective


This Art Gallery is a treasure.  Situated in Florida Road they are connected to
a bookshop so it is wonderful to stroll between the bookshop and the Gallery.
Full of unique pieces they also have many wonderful events at the Gallery.
Definitely worth a visit.  Now also offering Coffees and Snacks.
Look out for their Exhibitions they are very supportive of small Artists as well.

3. Imbizo Art Gallery


Situated North of Durban in Ballito.  This gallery is part of the Lifestyle Centre.
They are known for their upmarket art pieces.  You will normally find once a month
they launch new artworks and invite artists for openings.  The openings are wonderful
events filled with music, good food and drinks and lively debate.  Worth a drive up North.

4.  Artisan Art Gallery 


Another of the many Art Galleries in Florida Road.
This one has many unusual pieces.  Pop by and marvel at the unique pieces on show there.

pieces and cutlery.

Coming up soon is the Festival of Reading New Writing.  Have you entered?


5th NLDTF / PANSA Festival of Reading New Writing: 13 january 2012 (CT, Dbn, Jhb) 
The fifth PANSA Festival of Reading of New Writing will be held in April 2012. The deadline for entries is Friday January 13, 2012.

The aims of the Festival are to generate original South African theatre works, to provide a platform for these works to reach the attention of theatre producers, and to work towards full-scale productions of the winning plays. An important component of the Festival is the discussions following the reading of each work, to encourage constructive feedback, and the debate around theatre aesthetics, functions and forms. The winning scripts in each region are re-read in the national final and are up for a Grand Prize of
R30 000.

The festivals have been a resounding success in previous years with most of the winning scripts (and numerous of those not winning as well) going on to full scale productions at a variety of theatres and festivals, both locally and internationally. Winning plays include, Salaam Stories by Ashraf Johaardien, Bungi writing finals by Finuala Dowling, Guy Willoughby’s Church Full of Light, and Mike van Graan’s Green Man Flashing and Two to Tango. More recent winners Kobus Moolman’s Stone Angel and Nicholas Spagnoletti’s London Road (Jury Runner up winner 2007) are still currently enjoying runs on the local circuit.

The scripts should be entered in one of the following categories: Comedy, Drama, 1 / 2 Hander. A panel of judges will select the five best scripts for participation in each regional Festival. Each of the selected scripts will be given a basic subsidy to fund reading rehearsals and S&T as required. The Festival will be open to writers throughout South Africa.

The basic criteria for participation are:
· All PANSA paid-up members may submit for free
· Non-PANSA paid up members will incur a R200 entry fee
· the work must be an original work
· the play must not have been published or performed before
· PANSA would have first option on producing and publishing the play (selected works may be published in a collection)
· plays should be between 70 minutes and 90 minutes long to ensure the possibility of a full-scale professional production
· there should be a maximum of 8 actors
· English should be the primary language of the play

Scripts must be typed, loose-leaf and have all pages numbered. Please include a cover page with all contact details and title of the play.

Submissions must be sent to PANSA National Office at Postnet Suite 237, Private Bag X18, Rondebosch, 7701, Cape Town by FRIDAY JANUARY 13, 2012.

Hand written submissions and those that arrive after the submission date, will not be accepted.
