She Put The I In Punch Line
Presented by ScruffySession Productions
A one woman show, written by one woman who probes her identity as a South African Indian girl. In an awkward account of personal history within political history within prehistoric...uh... history. The piece unravels in an existential frame; questioning ideas of gender, culture and racial identity.
The show is written from a personal point of view that hopes to make others laugh, relate and think.

'Youth Day Jive & Shisa-Nyama'
The KZNSA aweh! programme in association with The Nelisa Mzimela Legacy Foundation will be hosting a 'Youth Day Jive & Shisa-Nyama' at the KZNSA [166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood, Durban] on 16 June 2014, another of the KZNSA's Social Art 2014/15 Programme projects.
This event is in commemoration of the Soweto Student Uprising of 1976 as South Africa celebrates twenty years of Democracy and Freedom, with Youth Day marking thirty eight years this year. It is also an extension of the exhibition now on at the gallery, titled 'what u say 'bout what', which looks at ways in which the youth can make their voices and opinions known through creative acts.
The day will be filled with a variety of activities for the enjoyment of the whole family and different age groups. The event will showcase young Durban talent in various disciplines of the creative arts, capturing our bustling city life with many colourful live performances and multiple cultural experiences.
The event opens at 2pm, with a family afternoon till 4:30pm, which includes open Mic sessions with storytellers, mime artists and a special appearance from learners from Ntuzuma Township.
At 5pm, it is student uprising time, and a small cover charge of R20 allows you to jive to isicathamiya, hip hop, electro hip hop, kwaito, pop and new experimental sounds, as well as watch theatre performances and live interactive fashion shows against a backdrop of film. As part of our entrepreneurship support, a ’Shisa-Nyama and quartz' combo will be on sale - the event aims to fundraise for the Ntuzuma based organisation. Lovers of the visual arts can view the current exhibition of young artists from secondary and tertiary institutions in and around KwaZulu Natal.
For more information please contact Nelisa Mzimela on 0786095201 or E-mail:ntuzumaartsfestival@ gmail.com.

STARS OF THE BALLET RUSSIA IN SOUTH AFRICA
Celebrated Russian composer Tchaikovsky created the music for three of the world’s most loved and enduring ballets – Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker.
His legacy will live on when Stars of the Ballet Russia tour South Africa in August with a stirring programme which features excerpts from both Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty.
Choreographed by Yury Vetrov, former director of the Bolshoi Ballet, the programme will also feature excerpts from Paquita. Staged for the first time in Russia in 1847 for The Imperial Ballet of St Petersburg by Marius Petipa, the ballet was revived in 1881 with new pieces specially composed by composer Ludwig Minkus.
All three featured ballets are major cornerstones of the traditional classical ballet repertory and have been staged over centuries by ballet companies throughout the world.
Stars of the Ballet Russia comes to Durban for two shows only on August 5 and 6 at the Playhouse Opera theatre.
Vetrov started his career as a principal dancer with the Bolshoi Theatre and then trained under the direction of world-renowned choreographer Yury Grigorovich before completing his ballet master training at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1982.
He created the television film ballets Adagio and This Wonderful World and choreographed several famous dance scenes in the operas, The Spanish Hour (Ravel) and The Masquerade Ball (Verdi).
From 1990 to 1994 he was the artistic director of The Bolshoi Ballet and subsequently choreographed Don Quixote and Cinderella for the Russian National Ballet Company.
He currently works as a choreographer in various Russian and international ballet companies and teaches at the Moscow State University.
The programme he has prepared for the Stars of the Ballet Russia South African tour includes Acts 2 and 4 from Swan Lake, the pas de deux from Sleeping Beauty and the grand pas from Paquita.
Tickets range from R150 to R280. There are a limited number of tickets at R100 for pensioners and children under 12.
Shows are at 7.30pm and tickets are available from Computicket.
