The Deadly Seducer – Be Informed!

Cindy Pivacic, attributed with initiating the NPO, Aid My Journey-Support has written an inspiring and insightful book; The Deadly Seducer, recently published she takes us on her journey and experience living positively with HIV and Aids.

As a speaker, trainer, counsellor, author and Activist on HIV Aids she founded a centre in 2011 for people living with HIV and AIDS to assist them in skills development and knowledge to empower them to get back into the workforce.

This book is a story of courage and determination, on how Cindy’s approach to HIV& AIDS has led to her to assisting others who have been infected.

The Deadly Seducer includes 36 Questions and Answers in an easy-to-understand manner as well as sharing hard facts about her life and how she came to contract HIV and Aids, adding some healthy recipes into the mix.

South Africa has the highest stats in the world with the government indicating 400 000 new infections in 2012 and 6.4 million South Africans living with HIV. A well put together publication has endorsements from Mums Mail Editor Gina Peterson, Sunday Tribune and Charlotte Kemp, a well-known publisher; the book aims to raise awareness, inform and educate real life facts about HIV and Aids and should be put to use in educating one and all.

The Diary of Adam and Eve

Mark Twain’s deliciously whimsical and seldom-staged The Diary of Adam and Eve is coming to the Seabrooke’s Theatre on DHS campus in Durban for a short weekend season from 1-3 May 2014. 

The Diary of Adam and Eve, adapted for the stage by Mark Bucci, showcases the quirky tenderness and enduring wit of American humorist Mark Twain – best known for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The Diary of Adam and Eve was originally recorded as serialised double journal entries. It is apoignant, knowing, and terrifically witty three hander which takes a dig at timeless observations on the nature of men, women and love. Good Reads in its review of the text says:  “It reminds us that human creation has grains of truth for modern gender disputes. Humans are essentially the same inside. Adam is somewhat of a silent recluse, ill-prepared for his talkative emotional rib. After conflict, despite the apple, comes harmony,” 

Catarina Morgado is a relative new-comer to Durban. She is producing, directing and performing inThe Diary of Adam and Eve. She plays opposite Jonathan Cohen as Adam, and Mthokozisi Zulu as the Snake. The Diary of Adam and Eve comes to theSeabrookes Theatre, DHS by arrangement with Dalro  from Worker’s Day, 1 May until 3 May. There are just over two weeks until East Coast Radio Durban Day at People’s Park and music fans are snapping up tickets.  Seven of the country’s most established musicians and one up and coming band will take to the stage at the family orientated day out on Sunday 8 September.

East Coast Radio Durban Day is a chance for the whole family to revel in good music in a relaxed setting. In keeping with the relaxed vibe, concert goers will be allowed to bring along their own picnic baskets with food. No beverages will be allowed, these will be on sale. But if the idea of preparing your own food is a hassle there will also be food vendors at the venue. Aside from the on stage entertainment, there will be a secure Kids Zone to keep little ones entertained.

Lira, who forms part of this year’s line-up after a fantastic response at last East Coast Radio Durban Day, is excited about playing to the same kind of audience again this year. She says, “Performing at Durban Day is always a pleasure. It Durban's best cultural mix of audiences and allows my younger fans an opportunity to see me live. I love that! It’s an awesome family outing.”

Excitement mounting as ‘D-Day’ approaches.

Durban Tourism and East Coast Radio’s Durban Day in association with the Sunday Times takes place this weekend at Moses Mabhida’s Peoples Park and anticipation is growing. The event on Sunday, with a line-up that includes Idols finalists, Yoav, Toya Delazy, Johnny Clegg, LIRA, GoodLuck and the Parlotones, brings together some of the country’s best bands in a laid-back family friendly setting. The two Idols finalists that will be performing are both from KZN – the very popular Khaya Mthethwa and Shekhinah Donnell are sure wow crowds.

The artists themselves are eager to perform in front of a Durban crowd.  The ever popular Parlotones say, “We will be hanging out after the show to meet the crowds, take photos and sign anything people bring to us. We will be playing a mixture of our older songs, as well as several songs off our latest album Journey Through the Shadows.” Soulful songstress LIRA says, “Durban Day will be a great family outing and I look forward to some of my younger fans being able to attend a concert too. Fans will hear all their favourite songs as well as music from my latest album Return To Love.”

Durban Tourism and East Coast Radio’s Durban Day is synonymous with picnic baskets, good music and a chilled day out, so be sure to get your tickets in advance for just R100 from Computicket. Tickets will also be available at the gate on the day but this is subject to availability and these will cost R120. Children under the age of 12 enter for free. No beverages will be allowed, these will be on sale together with a wide variety of food vendors that should cater for all tastes.
