Lots happening at the Good Food and Wine Show in Durban

This Weekend Read about the Good Food and Wine Show and Dinner in the Dark.

‘Funsunzi’ dish crowned at the Good Food and Wine Show.

An Mtunzini business woman has walked away with top honours at a Funsunzi cook-off at the Good Food and Wine Show at the Durban Exhibition Centre. East Coast Radio launched the search for the most ‘Funsunzi’ dish earlier this month and called for listeners to enter their most delicious dish that uses local ingredients and represents the fun, sun or sea.

Karen Fish decided her Spicy East Coast Chicken and Prawn Soup would fit the bill perfectly. She says, “I was looking for all the elements of fun, sun and sea. ‘Sun’ is represented in the spices used - chilli and paprika. ‘Sea’ is found in the prawns and ‘fun’ is in the serving of the dish. It is served with fabulous fun things on top - grated cheese, sour cream and coriander amongst others.”

At a live broadcast by East Coast Radio’s Peter G at the Good Food and Wine Show on Thursday Karen went head to head with Nadine Swart from Amanzimtoti during the cook off. Nadine whipped up a dark chocolate tart but it wasn’t enough to beat Karen. Karen walks away with R20 000 in Woolworth’s vouchers and says, “I’m over the moon at having won. I love food and cooking even though I have a career in public relations.”
